A GRAND LIFE, HEARD

The Covid-19 crisis was tough for all of us, but particularly so for older people who were isolated from families, friends and much of the outside world. A Grand Life, Heard was commissioned for Box on the Docks at MediaCityUK, in collaboration with Hemmingway Design.

The project aimed to amplify and celebrate the voices of older people from across Greater Manchester and to reconnect communities during the pandemic. It explored unique family histories and the passing down of those true stories by their keepers.

The project received wide ranging media coverage, including the Manchester Evening News and Manchester Confidential

GEORGE. STORYTELLER

“My biggest fans over the years have been my 3 grandsons. To see a child laugh uncontrollably at what I said, and then ask for more, is probably the greatest achievement in my life to date. Then Colette and Heard Storytelling came in….

…a pathway for me to record a five-minute anecdote about any event at any time in my life opened up, and of course there was never even a nanosecond of doubt in my mind. Naturally I was a little nervous initially, but it was all so very simple, and the Heard Storytelling team were both very considerate and extremely professional when calling to my home.

The experience of telling rather than writing was so very different and hearing one’s voice always seems strange. But age and experience has taught me we humans are all unique, and I was so very proud of the end result.”
